Birmingham MCM Comic Con & Go Eat Worms

Hi! Thank you to everyone who came by my table at Birmingham MCM Comic Con! It was my first comic con of the year and a great way to kick things off! Thank you to everyone who bought a ink commission throughout the weekend and to my table neighbours for being great company!

I can also now confirm I'll have a table at London MCM Comic Con in May!

I've been developing a new long format comic/graphic novel called Go Eat Worms about a paranormal riot grrrl band who tour other worldly gig venues. I printed a 16 page full colour sample comic for the Laydeez Do Comics 'Laydeez Day' in London this Saturday. I believe there will be order forms at the event for this particular comic. I'll be around helping at the event so hopefully I'll see you there!

Birmingham Comic Art Show

Thanks to everyone who came by the Laydeez Do Comics table at the Birmingham Comic Art Show on Saturday. It was pretty quiet but a nice opportunity to meet some more local creative people.

I'm really looking forward to Glasgow Comic Con this weekend - You'll be able to find my table L08 in the Lomond Foyer. I'll be taking all the usual comics and music zines, plus copies of Charlotte Bailey's new Janelle Monae Fanzine. I'll be offering Inked convention commissions starting at £10. I'll also be taking some neon markers with me in case you'd like a portrait as an Inkling or Ghost Buster! If you're low on budget don't worry about it and please still come say hi - I have free mini comics to hand out!

Thanks, see you there!

Drink, Draw & Catch Em All

I invited some friends over to Fargo Village to draw and play Pokemon Go together. It was a lot of fun. Here are the prompts for anyone who would like to try them ...

Pokemon Drawing Prompts
  • Pokemon from memory (pull a name at random)
  • Draw yourself as a gym leader
  • Draw yourself as a Pokemon trainer
  • Fan-design your fave Pokemon in new Alola Forms
  • Fan-design your fave Pokemon as a Mega Evolution
  • Design a Pokemon Gijinka character (humanoid interpretation)
  • Fan-design a more majestic Dragon/Grass duel type Pokemon than long neck Exeggutor
  • Design your own ‘Pokemon Fusion’ (usually the face of one Pokemon, on the body of another)
Drawing examples by Zee & GeenieJay

It's nearly convention season again! I convinced Sarah Fogg to team up with me again and bring some things from her Etsy Shop to ICE International Comic Expo next Saturday! I can also confirm a table at Birmingham MCM Comic Con in November.

Hometown by Laydeez Do Comics Birmingham

Laydeez Do Comics are a group who hold regular events around the UK and internationally. Creators are invited to do presentations about comics or their own work. LDC Birmingham has been running for a year and to celebrate Charlotte Bailey compiled an anthology with the theme Hometown. The profits will go towards bringing speakers from further afield to Birmingham.

I will have copies of the book available from my table at events (see the blog sidebar for an up to date list). You can order Hometown online through the LDC Big Cartel site

I contributed a 2 page comic and the wrap around cover illustration. Photographed pages are by Charlotte Bailey, Yen Quach and Bryony Attenburrow. The comic was printed locally with a risograph machine by Rope Press.

Birmingham MCM Comic Con and Giant Rhinos In Space

Thank you very much to everyone who came by my table at Birmingham MCM Comic Con, it was great to see familiar faces and meet new people - I had a lovely time with my table neighbours Ryuuza, Fat Fairy, Neil Slorance and An Android Awakes. Thanks to my sister Lisa for sitting behind the table for a bit.

MCM was the last convention of the year and I’m looking forward to focusing on finishing comic pages over the winter months. Most events I’m planning to attend in the spring are unconfirmed, but the first show of the year will be True Believers Comic Festival on Saturday 6th February 2016b at Cheltenham Racecourse. Don’t forget I’ll be launching the Grimes Art Angels Fanzine at that event - submission information here!

I make sure to keep a up to date list of confirmed events in the blog sidebar. I also have an Etsy shop (includes international shipping).

If you are based in the West Midlands there are some events coming up that you should make a note of ....
Giant Rhinos In Space #4 will be launching online this Friday! updates will be at 12noon GMT on Tuesday/Fridays! bookmark a webcomic host site:

Bristol Comic and Zine Fair 2015

Thank you to everyone who came by at the Bristol Comic & Zine Fair yesterday. I had a lovely time sat next to Mair Thomas and Hamish Steele.

The next event will be London MCM Comic Con at the end of October. I was hoping to share the table with Sarah Fogg but unfortunately she needs to take a break from conventions this term. I’ve missed Sarah a lot when I’ve been at events on my own - so I’m hoping she’ll be back doing small press stuff again next year. You should definitely follow her beautiful diverse inktober pictures over on her tumblr. You’ll be able to find the table in the Comic Village (table numbers will be announced nearer the date and maps are usually in the convention guide which you can find at the show or online)

Updated autumn events:
Thank you to everyone at Laydeez Do Comics Birmingham on Thursday night. It’s always great to get a chance to chat to local comics creators. I did a presentation about the Misc Fits creation process. I'm going to post the slides online over the next couple of weeks.

LDC Birmingham will be hosting presentations at Caption at Fargo Village in Coventry next weekend - 10am-6pm on Saturday 10th and 11am-4pm on Sunday 11th October 2015. You may have heard of Caption before, it’s an event which used to run in Oxford and I’m looking forward to see it come to my home town. More information on their website

How To Draw Misc Fits, Scotland MCM and Laydeez Do Comics

Hi everyone! I had a absolutely amazing time at Scotland MCM Comic Con. I’d like to say a massive thank you to all the lovely people who came by my table over the weekend - I had such a great time and I’m happy that sales were good enough to travel to the event again next year.

I have 2 events this week to tell you about ...

I’m doing a presentation at Laydeez Do Comics Birmingham at 7.30-9.30 on Thursday 1st October at the Green Room Cafe (it’s opposite the Hippodrome, not far from New Street station). I’ll be mostly talking about the creation of Misc Fits and I’ll take along some of the original comic pages for you to look through. Jess Bradley, Joe Krawec and Dori Kirchmair will also be doing presentations - more information on the LDC website.

Then on Saturday 3rd October 2015 I’m heading down to the Bristol Comic and Zine Fair - The event is FREE ENTRY! I only have a half table at this show so I  will only be able to take comics and small merchandise such as plectrums and badges. If you were hoping to pick up a poster or a specific ink drawing (I have some listed on Etsy) give me a message and I’ll bring them along for you.

More autumn events are listed in the blog sidebar - and if you can’t make it to Bristol, London or Leeds, I have an Etsy shop were you can order online. I’m hoping I can confirm a table at Birmingham MCM Comic Con over the next couple of weeks.

Thanks again!
