The Midlands Lo-Operative Alternative Art Market

Thanks to everyone at The Midland Lo-Operatives Alternative Art Market at The Hare & Hounds yesterday. It was a quiet afternoon, but still lovely to watch live art progress and hang out with other Artists from the local area who wouldn’t normally at the same sorts of events. There were talks about growing the event and the next one falling some time in June so look out for that! Special thanks for Olly for inviting me along. It was great to meet Lewes Herriot who designs great posters for This Is TMRW - a lot of my gig sketches are from their events. London MCM Comic Con October 2016

Thank you to everyone who came by my table at London MCM Comic Con! I really love decorating my table for Halloween. I had a great time with my table neighbours @ryuuza-art, @claudetc and @ratherlemony!!

I’ll be at Thought Bubble this weekend in Leeds! I’m sharing table 182b in New Dock Hall with Drew Askew/Ink & Booze.

I’m picking up a brand new gig sketches zine from the printers this week! (Rope Press) It compiles some of the gig sketches from the last year or so plus new comics and illustrations - including ‘Sammy’s Guide to Gig Sketching’ - sharing tips on how to draw on location, in the dark and in the middle of rowdy crowds. Small Press Day 2016

Special thank you to Camila and the staff at Orbital Comics for putting on a lovely event for Small Press Day! The hour slot with Clíodhna, Jenika, Sina and Sean was good fun and the time flew by far too quickly!

I sent some gig sketches to One Beat Zines for a new zine they launched yesterday over at Gosh! Comics. It’s got a really great mixture of illustrations and comics!

Reminder: Laydeez do Comics Birmingham is on tomorrow night! Monday 11th July 7.30pm at The Victoria. Guest speakers will be Julie Pickering, Natalie Cutler & Bryony Attenburrow. See you there!! (ps. everyone is welcome - boys can come too)

Autumn Anthologies

 Identity - Preorders Available!

Identity is a anthology published by One Beat Zines. Profits will be going to The Albert Kennedy Trust and The Feminist Library . There are 33 contributors and 80+ full colour pages! - you can see great previews and read more about it here. The book will be launching at Thought Bubble (New Dock Hall) this year - but a bit like a kickstarter - preorders are helpful for covering initial print costs.

Afrofutures_UK Anthology

Afrofutures_UK is an event being held in Manchester THIS WEEKEND - 10th October! It sounds absolutely fantastic and I’m sad I wont be able to attend. I think it’s all free entry! I’ve just spotted a zine making workshop on the schedule!! The anthology looks like it was a crowd funding reward and I’m not certain if it will be available as a physical book at the event. I’ll try to let you know if I find out more about either pdf or print publication.

Hallowzine

Jack Hugh Baker has compiled a full colour Halloween themed zine - one of my favourite things about Halloween is that everything is purple, orange and lime green. I don’t have all the full details of the other contributors at the moment, but the odd submission I’ve seen so far were all great! - you can see the cover artwork here. I have ordered a small amount of copies and hopefully I will have them on my table at London MCM Comic Con (Comic Village).

Radio On Broadcast 2

As far as I know Radio On Broadcast 2 will also be launching* at Thought Bubble (TB Marquee). It’s a music anthology published by The Analogue Press. My submission features one of my favourite bands to come from the midlands, Peace but also Beyonce.

*EDIT: Broadcast 2 will be launched at LICAF next weekend. - The Analogue Press have a table in the Comics Clocktower.

Manchester MCM Comic Con 2015

 

 

I’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone who came by my table at Manchester MCM Comic Con last weekend - I had a amazing time! My next convention will be at ICE - that’s International Comics Expo in Birmingham city center (not far from New Street) on Saturday 5th September 2015. Comica Comiket

 

Thank you to everyone who came by our table at Comica Comiket! I just wish the library was open a bit longer - I was having too much fun

The next event will be the Bristol Comic & Zine Fair on Saturday 4th October 2014. I will be sharing half a table with Sarah Fogg again so we will be bringing slightly limited stock. But we really love making new things so there will probably be something brand new on the table.

What's The Time Mrs. Woolf? Summer 2014 - Pirates!

The preview is from my 2 page comic in the new summer issue of What's The Time Mrs. Woolf?  This time the zine had a pirates theme. My comic is only very loosely based on the theme. You can read more about the zine in pirate slang and learn contributor's pirate names here.

WTTMW? has open submissions for women and girls. If you're interested in sending something the submission information for autumn is now online.

New Comics For Manchester MCM Comic Con

I've printed 2 new books ready to take to Manchester MCM Comic Con on the 19th-20th July. Giant Rhinos In Space #2 and a open submissions Gorillaz Fanzine. I will be sharing a table with Sarah Fogg - we will also have some new free mini comics to hand out and the brand new summer pirate themed issue of What's The Time Mrs. Woolf?

We have added a comics event over the summer - we will be at Comica Comiket at The British Library on Saturday 16th August 2014! (See the right hand side of the blog for current event list)

Music Zine #3

Sarah Fogg and I compile a music zine together roughly once a year called This Is Not A Serious Music Publication. We will print the next issue once we have enough comics, articles, gig sketches, illustrations to fill a new one. These are just some previews of some of the things I've started this year. Cyborg Noodle from Gorillaz, a comic about the Franz Ferdinand tour and Mordecai and the Rigbys VS. Marceline And The Scream Queens. Last year's issue is still available to order through Etsy.

Leamington Zine & Record Store Day

Stale Symphonies are a series of short gag style comics. Most of the stories have been created with a collective zine or anthology in mind. This one has been submitted to the latest issue of Leamington Zine because the theme was music to coincide with Record Store Day. I have also contributed an illustration of local band The Rosenberg Appeal.You can find a list of their stockists on their Facebook page and read past issues online here.

Birmingham MCM Comic Con 2014
