Birmingham MCM Comic Con and Giant Rhinos In Space

Thank you very much to everyone who came by my table at Birmingham MCM Comic Con, it was great to see familiar faces and meet new people - I had a lovely time with my table neighbours Ryuuza, Fat Fairy, Neil Slorance and An Android Awakes. Thanks to my sister Lisa for sitting behind the table for a bit.

MCM was the last convention of the year and I’m looking forward to focusing on finishing comic pages over the winter months. Most events I’m planning to attend in the spring are unconfirmed, but the first show of the year will be True Believers Comic Festival on Saturday 6th February 2016b at Cheltenham Racecourse. Don’t forget I’ll be launching the Grimes Art Angels Fanzine at that event - submission information here!

I make sure to keep a up to date list of confirmed events in the blog sidebar. I also have an Etsy shop (includes international shipping).

If you are based in the West Midlands there are some events coming up that you should make a note of ....
Giant Rhinos In Space #4 will be launching online this Friday! updates will be at 12noon GMT on Tuesday/Fridays! bookmark a webcomic host site:

Identity Anthology

I have a comic in One Beat Zine's new anthology, Identity. It will be launching this weekend at Thought Bubble - table 153 in New Dock Hall. There is a great in depth review by Andy Oliver on Broken Frontier - the site has also named the book 'comic of the week'! If you can't make it to Leeds Identity open for online preorders. Profits after printing will go to The Albert Kennedy Trust and The Feminist Library.

I will also be at Thought Bubble this weekend. I’m sharing table 59 in the Royal Armouries with A Little Lost Caterpillar! Please come by and say hello! All my usual comics and merchandise including Misc Fits: The Sea Apple and Giant Rhinos In Space will be available. I have a limited amount of copies of The Hallowzine and Radio On Broadcast #2. There will be free mini comics to hand out to anyone who would like a copy.

London MCM Comic Con October 2015

Thank you so much to everyone who bought comics or merch from my table at London MCM Comic Con! I had a really great weekend chatting to people who stopped by. Someone finally explained why Rick and Morty fans shout 'SHOW ME WHAT YOU GOT!' when I tell them about Giant Rhinos In Space.

I took some cosplay photos and posted them on my personal tumblr blog.

I have 2 conventions left this season - I’ll be on a half table in the Royal Amouries Hall at Thought Bubble (sorry I wont be able to display the folder of original illustrations and comics pages, but message me if you’d really love to buy one and I’ll bring it along - individually priced £10-£30). The week after I will have a full table in the Comic Village at Birmingham MCM Comic Con. I will have some copies of Radio On Broadcast #2 and hopefully some new Misc Fits pin badge sets and a choice of Giant Rhinos In Space drumstick designs. There will also be FREE MINI COMICS to hand out.

Don’t forget I have an online Etsy shop if you can’t get to Leeds or Birmingham.
Thanks again!

Leamington Comic Con 2015

I booked a last minute table at Leamington Comic Con. Thank you to everyone who came by and bought comics yesterday! The show was busier than I was expecting and I had a great time chatting about Barreleye fish and music zines.

Sorry about being away from the table towards the end of the day - I was filling in for Matthew Craig on a small press panel with Rees Finlay, Stu Perrins and Neil Sambrook with questions from Olly MacNamee.

My next event will be London MCM Comic Con. You’ll be able to find table CG11 in the Comic Village. Maps will be available in the show guide at the event or online. (I’ll tweet some directions on Friday morning @sammyborras) I will be taking all the stock in the photos, plus a folder of original ink drawings and hopefully some brand new group anthologies and badges if they arrive in time. There will be plenty of free mini comics to hand out - the secret password is ‘do you have a business card?’ and I will hand you a little comic instead!

My table neighbours at MCM will be Ryuuza/Giuseppa Barresi, creator of the Farsight & Soulsnatchers comics - she does great portrait commissions at conventions! I will also be next to Tomb Bomb comics who are currently running a Kickstarter campaign for the Horror Anthology, Bomb Scares, which ends in the next couple of days.

If you can’t get to London I have a list of events in the sidebar and a Etsy shop for online orders.

Thanks! See you there!

Giant Rhinos Drumsticks and New Plectrum Designs

I’d like to say a quick thank you to everyone who bought my comics from the small press table at Caption over the weekend. I had a brilliant time at the event and I’d like to say a massive thank you to everyone involved with organisation and all the panels and workshops.

I designed some new fictional band merchandise for my comic Giant Rhinos In Space. They have arrived in time to take to London MCM Comic Con. I'll be selling my comics and zines for all 3 days and you'll be able to find table CG11 in the Comic Village. Maps will be available in the show guide at the event or online.

The Giant Rhinos logo has been printed onto 5A American hickory drumsticks. I've been told they're all rounders and a good starting point for beginners. The Giant Rhinos plectrums are glow in the dark. (Black Like My Heart plectrums are also now available slightly thicker at 0.81)

If you can’t get to London - I have a online Etsy shop and more events are listed in the blog sidebar. I will have free mini comis to give to people at every event this term. If I’m too busy chatting and miss handing you one - the secret password is ‘Do you have a business card?’ and I will hand you a little comic instead.

Autumn Anthologies

 Identity - Preorders Available!

Identity is a anthology published by One Beat Zines. Profits will be going to The Albert Kennedy Trust and The Feminist Library . There are 33 contributors and 80+ full colour pages! - you can see great previews and read more about it here. The book will be launching at Thought Bubble (New Dock Hall) this year - but a bit like a kickstarter - preorders are helpful for covering initial print costs.

Afrofutures_UK Anthology

Afrofutures_UK is an event being held in Manchester THIS WEEKEND - 10th October! It sounds absolutely fantastic and I’m sad I wont be able to attend. I think it’s all free entry! I’ve just spotted a zine making workshop on the schedule!! The anthology looks like it was a crowd funding reward and I’m not certain if it will be available as a physical book at the event. I’ll try to let you know if I find out more about either pdf or print publication.

Hallowzine

Jack Hugh Baker has compiled a full colour Halloween themed zine - one of my favourite things about Halloween is that everything is purple, orange and lime green. I don’t have all the full details of the other contributors at the moment, but the odd submission I’ve seen so far were all great! - you can see the cover artwork here. I have ordered a small amount of copies and hopefully I will have them on my table at London MCM Comic Con (Comic Village).

Radio On Broadcast 2

As far as I know Radio On Broadcast 2 will also be launching* at Thought Bubble (TB Marquee). It’s a music anthology published by The Analogue Press. My submission features one of my favourite bands to come from the midlands, Peace but also Beyonce.

*EDIT: Broadcast 2 will be launched at LICAF next weekend. - The Analogue Press have a table in the Comics Clocktower.

Bristol Comic and Zine Fair 2015

Thank you to everyone who came by at the Bristol Comic & Zine Fair yesterday. I had a lovely time sat next to Mair Thomas and Hamish Steele.

The next event will be London MCM Comic Con at the end of October. I was hoping to share the table with Sarah Fogg but unfortunately she needs to take a break from conventions this term. I’ve missed Sarah a lot when I’ve been at events on my own - so I’m hoping she’ll be back doing small press stuff again next year. You should definitely follow her beautiful diverse inktober pictures over on her tumblr. You’ll be able to find the table in the Comic Village (table numbers will be announced nearer the date and maps are usually in the convention guide which you can find at the show or online)

Updated autumn events:
Thank you to everyone at Laydeez Do Comics Birmingham on Thursday night. It’s always great to get a chance to chat to local comics creators. I did a presentation about the Misc Fits creation process. I'm going to post the slides online over the next couple of weeks.

LDC Birmingham will be hosting presentations at Caption at Fargo Village in Coventry next weekend - 10am-6pm on Saturday 10th and 11am-4pm on Sunday 11th October 2015. You may have heard of Caption before, it’s an event which used to run in Oxford and I’m looking forward to see it come to my home town. More information on their website

How To Draw Misc Fits, Scotland MCM and Laydeez Do Comics

Hi everyone! I had a absolutely amazing time at Scotland MCM Comic Con. I’d like to say a massive thank you to all the lovely people who came by my table over the weekend - I had such a great time and I’m happy that sales were good enough to travel to the event again next year.

I have 2 events this week to tell you about ...

I’m doing a presentation at Laydeez Do Comics Birmingham at 7.30-9.30 on Thursday 1st October at the Green Room Cafe (it’s opposite the Hippodrome, not far from New Street station). I’ll be mostly talking about the creation of Misc Fits and I’ll take along some of the original comic pages for you to look through. Jess Bradley, Joe Krawec and Dori Kirchmair will also be doing presentations - more information on the LDC website.

Then on Saturday 3rd October 2015 I’m heading down to the Bristol Comic and Zine Fair - The event is FREE ENTRY! I only have a half table at this show so I  will only be able to take comics and small merchandise such as plectrums and badges. If you were hoping to pick up a poster or a specific ink drawing (I have some listed on Etsy) give me a message and I’ll bring them along for you.

More autumn events are listed in the blog sidebar - and if you can’t make it to Bristol, London or Leeds, I have an Etsy shop were you can order online. I’m hoping I can confirm a table at Birmingham MCM Comic Con over the next couple of weeks.

Thanks again!

Misc Fits @ Comic Con

I’m taking my comics up to Scotland MCM Comic Con for the first time this weekend - 26th-27th September at The SECC, Glasgow.

My table is CF1 in the Comic Village - so I should be on the end of one of the rows - there will be maps available online, in the show guide (click here!) and hopefully around the room. There is usually a handy ceiling banner hanging above the Comic Village and it looks like the section will be roughly in the middle of the convention hall.

I always take free mini comics to hand out at events - I have a secret password in case I get carried away chatting or the table is busy and I miss handing you one - you just need to casually ask ‘do you have a business card?’ and you’ll get given a whole comic!

Misc Fits: The Sea Apple will be available to buy in bright full colour print format! (If you would like to see the characters on merchandise please let me know and I’ll try sorting something for some of the later events.)

I’m taking a folder of original pages and illustrations. They are individually priced ranging from £10-£30 depending on paper size and how complicated they are. I have a couple of Giant Rhinos In Space illustrations, portraits from That Music Zine and all the Misc Fits comic pages and The Sea Apple cover spread.

I’m also going to have a new bundle deal available at the show - all 3 issues of Giant Rhinos In Space plus a poster for £10 - that saves you money on comics and knocks the poster price down to £2.50 - half price!

For a up to date list of events please see the blog sidebar - thanks hopefully I’ll see you there! (just in case I can’t see you there - I have a online Etsy shop)

ICE and Moseley Folk Festival 2015

I had a table at ICE (International Comic Expo) in Birmingham on Saturday and I also helped out at Moseley Folk Festival over the weekend. Unfortunately the busy Friday meant I opened my suitcase on Saturday morning to find I hadn't packed any copies of Giant Rhinos In Space #3 - I'm really sorry for the inconvenience and I will be posting them out to people who bought bundles later today. I had a lot of fun sharing the table with Laura Watton/PinkAppleJam - thank you to everyone who came by to chat about pens and comics!!

My next event will be Scotland MCM Comic Con in Glasgow - I don't have the details of my table location yet, but it will be somewhere in the Comic Village. My friends have told me good things about this show so I'm really excited to take my comics to Scotland for the first time. I have a up to date list of events in the sidebar - if you can't make it to any I also have an Etsy shop with comics and original drawings for sale. Thank you!

I also took my gig sketch book along to the folk festival and did some drawing in my free time - please visit my music blog on tumblr for more photos, videos and information about the bands. (There are more gig sketches from this year using the tumblr tag 'gig sketches'.)

Misc Fits & Mancstercon 2015

Over the summer I've been working on a new series of slice of life short stories called Misc Fits. You can follow The Sea Apple online with a new page at 12noon every Tuesday and Wednesday via Tumblr, Smack Jeeves or Tapastic. The print copies of the first story arrived early and are now available to order through my Etsy shop. I also have a up to date list of confirmed events I'm attending in autumn in the blog side bar - starting with ICE (International Comics Expo) in central Birmingham on Saturday 5th September. I'll be sharing a table with Laura Watton and you'll be able to find us at table 4 in the 'Innovate' room.

I'd like to say a big thank you to Laydeez Do Comics for the opportunity to sell my work from their table at Mancstercon yesterday and to my parents for the lift to the event. Thank you to everyone who came by to chat or buy comics - the event was lovely and I had a nice time chilling out and meeting some new people.

I'm going to be doing a presentation at the next Laydeez Do Comics Birmingham event. I'll be taking along some of the original Misc Fits pages for people to look at and talk a bit about my current comics process. I don't have the full details on the other 2 presentations yet, but the event itself will be at 7.30-9.30pm on Thursday 1st October at the Green Room Cafebar (opposite the Hippodrome in Birmingham City Center - not far from New Street station)
